    Killers Of The Flower Moon

In October 2023, a  true crime movie adaptation of the “Killers of the Flower Moon” book will be released, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone.

    Background

In the late 1800s oil, was discovered in the territory of Oklahoma, which became the State of Oklahoma. Oil was also found in the Osage Nation in Oklahoma, thus making the Osage the richest people on Earth, per capita, in the 1920s. The Osage people became immensely wealthy – limousines, mansions, private overseas education, etc. The US government decided that the Osage needed stewardship and guidance, and appointed guardians to the Osage for the access and use of their wealth. Much of this guardianship was corrupt. Many Osage members began to be murdered or died under mysterious circumstances. This was known as “The Reign of Terror”. Even many people who dared to investigate these deaths were themselves murdered. The newly created FBI took up the case. The FBI was notoriously corrupt and initially mismanaged the case. Eventually, the FBI and Osage were able to start to expose these crimes.

    The Book

“Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI”, 2017 nonfiction by David Grann. Set in the early 1900s, the book revolves around the Osage Indian Nation, the discovery of oil on their land, their sudden wealth, greed, murders, and the beginnings of the FBI.
